Mille Lacs Opener Predictions

What does a later spring mean on Mille Lacs?

As we near the end of April, and it seems as though spring has just begun, preparations are in full swing at the Windy Fishing Headquarters. I am busy with boat repairs and gear preparation. The photo attached above is of Mille Lacs lake on the western shoreline, looking towards Brown’s point. The photo was taken after a fresh snowfall, so it may be deceiving, but I have a feeling we are a ways out from Mille Lacs ice off. A later ice off as a result of a later spring should set the early season up for some phenomenal fishing. A later ice off should result in more walleyes hanging around the shallows, and perhaps a few pike hanging around as well. The smallmouth spawn should be later this year, resulting in more time for pre-spawn fishing.  I am very excited for the season; I believe that we will have phenomenal early season fishing.
